Partner Visa - Pathway to Reuniting With Your Loved One
If you are in a relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen, an Australian Partner Visa allows you to live, work, and build a life together in Australia. Partner visas provide a pathway to permanent residency and, ultimately, Australian citizenship for eligible applicants.
Types of Australian Partner Visas
Australia offers several partner visa options depending on your
relationship status and
whether you are applying from inside or outside Australia:
Partner (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 820) and Partner (Permanent) Visa (Subclass 801) – Onshore
The Subclass 820 (Temporary) Visa and Subclass 801 (Permanent) Visa are for applicants who are in Australia at time of application. The Subclass 820 Visa is a temporary visa that allows you to live in Australia while your Subclass 801 Visa is processed, granting you permanent residency.
The 820 Visa allows you to live and work in Australia temporarily.
Once the 801 Visa is granted, you gain permanent residency.
You can include eligible family members in your application.

Partner (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 309) and Partner (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 100) – Offshore
The Subclass 309 (Provisional) Visa and Subclass 100 (Migrant) Visa are for applicants outside Australia at time of application. The Subclass 309 Visa is a temporary visa that allows you to stay in Australia while your permanent Subclass 100 Visa is processed.
The 309 Visa allows you to enter and live in Australia temporarily.
The 100 Visa grants you permanent residency after meeting certain conditions.
Both visas allow you to live, work and study in Australia .
Prospective Marriage (Subclass 300) Visa
The Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300) is a temporary visa for individuals who are engaged to an Australian citizen or permanent resident. This visa allows you to enter Australia, marry your partner, and then apply for a partner visa.
The visa is valid for 9 to 15 months, during which you must marry your partner.
After marriage, you can apply for a Partner Visa to live permanently in Australia.
Work and study rights are included while holding this visa.
