Skills in Demand 482 Visa
The Skills in Demand (SID) Visa (Subclass 482) allows Australian businesses to address genuine skill shortages by sponsoring skilled workers from overseas. This visa allows businesses to fill positions that cannot be filled by the local Australian workforce, offering employers flexibility in sourcing global talent while providing skilled individuals the opportunity to work in Australia.
Key Features of the 482 Visa
The SID visa offers businesses the ability to hire overseas workers on a temporary basis for up to four years, depending on the occupation and visa stream. There are three streams under the SID visa, each catering to specific business needs and worker qualifications.
Specialist Skills Stream:
- Be nominated to work under ANZSCO occupation listed in major groups 1,2,4,5 or 6 with a salary that meets Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT).
- Allows workers to stay in Australia for up to four years.
- This stream provides a pathway to permanent residency under Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Subclass 186 Temporary Residence transition (TRT) stream only after two years unless they can be nominated under occupation on Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).
Core Skills Stream
- Designed for occupations listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) with a salary that meets Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT)
- Allows workers to stay for up to four years.
- This stream can lead to permanent residency under Direct Entry subject to meeting requirements or after two years through the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Subclass 186 Temporary Residence transition (TRT) stream.
Labour Agreement Stream
- Available to businesses that have a Labour Agreement with the Australian government.
- Suitable for businesses in industries or regions facing severe skill shortages, allowing for greater flexibility in terms of occupation and visa conditions.
